This scenario repeats itself every day in classrooms around the world. While most of the class is ready to take notes or start an assignments, a portion of the children are lost in their notebooks and backpacks trying to find a pencil and a clean piece of paper to write on. Can you imagine how quickly these kids get behind in this fast-paced world? It’s not because they lack intelligence, but because they weren’t taught how to use a few necessary systems and skills.
Today’s action step:
Did you notice the notebook and locker checklists in the first chapter? Make sure you use them to get your child organized today. If you aren’t organized and prepared, everything in life will be more difficult. I should know. A teacher once called me “Pigpen” because I was so disorganized! Print the checklists out and use them to help your child organize his or her notebooks and locker (or desk if your child is in the earlier grades.)
Once students start to change their messy ways, school becomes a much better, more fulfilling place to be. Chapter One outlines the ‘organizational’ method I developed for myself and my students (middle school, high school, and college students.) It works so well that parents hire me to help prepare their children for the challenges of school, and how to apply those same skills to improve the rest of their life. Use the information in Chapter 1 to get yourself (or your child) ready for success.
